Died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Pfc. Thomas C. Allers was an only child who was named after his father and did everything together with him, especially fishing. He was known as a great kid, very sweet and his mother’s world.

Allers, who graduated from Plainwell High School in 2006, was on his first deployment to Afghanistan and had only been there a short time.

An Army lieutenant colonel said in his address that Allers was a “true citizen soldier” who exemplified the seven Army values of “loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.”

Allers received the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Purple Heart and Overseas Service Ribbon.
