SSG Shawn Michael Wilding, age 29, of Lapeer, passed away March 13th, 2019, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He lost his effort to overcome the demons. Shawn was born on December 4th, 1989, in Flint, MI. He was a graduate of Lapeer East High School, Class of 2008.

After high school Shawn moved to Orlando, Florida for a year to attend the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute. He enlisted in the Michigan Army National Guard in 2009. He loyally and honorably served his country and was in Afghanistan for one tour. Shawn was currently employed at the Lapeer Armory – Michigan Army National Guard where he held many positions and had many responsibilities. He was a member of the Lapeer VFW Post 4139, a proud supporter of Operation Homefront, and volunteered his time and efforts to disabled veterans. Shawn was able to help many veterans in need and touched the lives of countless people.

Shawn was a problem solver who enjoyed working on his motorcycles, trucks, cars or anything mechanical. He loved hunting and the outdoors in general. He always looked forward to the annual canoe trips to Big Bend on the Rifle River and loved camping. Most of all Shawn was a family man with a heart of gold who absolutely adored time spent with his five year old son, Talan.
