Passed away suddenly while training at Camp Pendleton

Michael was the 4th of 8 children born to Frank and Jane Giannattasio. Michael graduated from Notre Dame de la Salette High School, Olivet, IL in 2014 where he ran Cross Country and played Rugby. Michael graduated with the “Devotion to Duty” award and was an All-State Rugby player during his Senior Year. He had the privilege to serve as Master of Ceremonies while at La Salette and consecrated himself to Our Lady during his high school years.

Michael then attended Macomb Community College in 2015 and 2016 before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps on January 23, 2017. Michael completed Basic Training on April 21, 2017, with Platoon 3028, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion at Parris Island, SC where he earned the company’s highest physical fitness and combat fitness score of 600 out of 600 points. After basic training, Michael’s next assignment was to Reconnaissance Training Company, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA where he passed away while training.

Mike was always a force for the good, keeping everyone him positive and motivated. His superior commented, “I have never known a PFC, still in training, who has positively affected so many.”
