Died after small arms fire shot his chopper down in the Bay of Panama

CW2 Porter was born in Port Huron, MI to John and Marlene Porter.  He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1982 and joined the Army.  When he received his wings in 1988, his Uncle Bill pinned them on.  What a proud day.

On December 20, 1989 while serving as an aero scout pilot in Operation Just Cause Panama, CW2 was shot down by small arms fire which took out the chopper and it crashed in the Bay of Panama, 100 yards from shore.  He drowned before they could rescue him. The Army posthumously awarded him the Air Medal with “V” device and the Purple Heart. He was an avid sportsman.
