Age –20
Macomb, MI

Operation Enduring Freedom
1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC

Died of wounds during an ambush in Afghanistan

Lance Corporal Anthony Dilisio was supporting combat operations in Helmand Province when he was killed on May 30, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. While on patrol about 25 yards outside of camp, he was shot once in the head by a group of enemy fighters who drove by in a van. They stopped to check on a truck, were ambushed and a battle ensued.

Despite his superiors telling him he could have the day off, DiLisio volunteered to work that night. Two other Marines were killed in the same ambush.

Anthony Dilisio, a graduate of Dakota High School who swam and played football and baseball, enlisted in 2008 and was deployed in December. He was scheduled to come home at the end of July or early August.

He was a people person and he was always compelled to give back in some way. He wanted to serve in some capacity, whether it was as a firefighter or a police officer or a Marine, which to him was the pinnacle.

Anthony Dilisio’s father, Lorenzo, himself an Army veteran, and two of Anthony’s five siblings, flew to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and returned with his body to Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

Anthony Dilisio enjoyed golf and music. He was a very personable guy with a big heart. He had a lot of friends and everyone looked up to him.

He was remembered by a fellow Marine with the following words.

Ant, good conversations online man, I just realized your welcome home party was the same day I got back from Japan. We would have seen each other and hung out down there in Lejeune. I know you’re in a better place now man, you died a hero, something not too many people have a chance to do. I hope you are enjoying heaven. I’ll look out for Rachel. Miss ya.
